For humans it can be considered bad to be exposed to direct sunlight for a very long period of time. It can ruin our skin and cause dangerous diseases, furthermore it can dehydrate the life out of us. But it is not considered bad for the seafood we’re going to talk about right now.

Our ancestors learned different methods of preserving food during the early times; one of which is air drying seafood with the use of natural sunlight and the wind. The reason for this is simple: microorganisms and bacteria need water to grow, and water can be removed from anything using the process of evaporation. It has been long since drying seafood became the primary way of preserving fish and other foods. This method, after all, is cheap and effective.

Fast forward to the present we can always preserve our food with the help of home appliances, like refrigerators for example. However as ancient ways have been passed from generation to generation, these ways have been a part of our tradition and up to now we still practice some of these old customs. Continuing to preserve fishes by drying them under the sun is an example. We also use vinegar, pepper, and salt to add flavors to the fish; sometimes even chili if you prefer it spicy.

Nowadays though you can just order it over the internet and spare yourself the trouble of having to prepare the fish yourself. There are a lot of stores that offer online seafood delivery services that take your order to your doorsteps in just a few clicks. There is also a wide variety of flavors and dried seafood to choose from. We can always have our tradition with us, but it doesn’t mean we have to be stuck to the old ways.
